Martin Popplewell

Martin
has been principal of a Landscape Practice for the past 23 years - from
1987 to 1992 as partner within the Appleton Group during which time
he managed the Leeds office for the partnership and for the previous
five years under his own name. Before setting up that practice in 1982
he held the post of Assistant Principal Landscape Architect with Scottish
Special Housing Association in their Glasgow office, working on housing
and urban renewal projects throughout West Scotland. Martin Popplewell
trained as a Landscape Architect at Sheffield University and subsequently
gained a Masters Degree in Business Administration at Bradford University.
In 1986 he was the winner of the prestigious Phoenix Award for proposals relating
to the Dayspring Gardens, Esholt Village.
Mark Topping MA (Hons)
On completion of his first landscape degree from Heriot-Watt University in 1999 Mark
spent a year working for Popplewell Associates before returning to Heriot-Watt for
his Master's course. During his time in Edinburgh Mark also spent 6 months studying
Landscape Architecture and Urban Design at Purdue University in the USA. On graduation
Mark worked in Canada for two major planning consultancies on a diverse range of
projects and returned to the UK in 2003. Immediately prior to rejoining Popplewells
in September 2004 Mark was employed by a firm of Landscape Architects and Urban Designers
based in Wakefield where he worked on housing regeneration and master planning
for a new casino development in Sheffield. During his time with us Mark has worked
on a diverse range of projects involving extensive use of Photoshop and other graphics software.
Tom Ferraby BA (Hons) DipLA
Tom graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in June 2000 and joined a large
multi-disciplinary consultancy firm in Bristol. He contributed to varied landscape
design work in the fields of residential and commercial development. He then
returned to LMU to complete a Graduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture before
joining the practice as a Landscape Architect in April 2003. He is currently
preparing to take the Landscape Institute Professional Practice exam.
Jeff Russon BSc
After graduating from the University of Utah in 1971 Jeff worked as
a teacher in Britain and Botswana before spending twenty years in the
Horticulture industry. Jeff joined the practice in August 2001 and forms
an important part of the team assisting senior design staff in the preparation
of drawings. He has a particular responsibility for administration of
all aspects of our computer system and has programmed some of the bespoke software we
currently use. In addition Jeff has developed particular knowledge of
Japanese Knotweed and in liaison with landscape designers in the office,
offers advice to clients on its treatment.
Daniel Robinson BA (Hons) DipLA
Daniel joined our team in 2002 and has since completed a graduate diploma in
Landscape Architecture graduating with merit from Leeds Metropolitan University in June 2005.
Daniel previously completed his degree at Leeds and prior to joining us went on to undertake
several private garden designs.
Suzy Brown
Suzy is our longest serving employee having started work with us in 1992 at the time of our arrival in York.
She os Martin's PA and assists him with sales and marketing matters. Apart from undertaking all secretarial
functions for the technical staff, she also performs a crucial role as office administrator, covering such
issues as Health & Safety and ensures that the office procedures are adhered to throughout the various
stages of each project.
Jeanette Lynn
Jeanette joined the practice in December 2000 having previously been employed as the
Practice Manager to a firm of Property and Construction Consultants. As Practice manager
at Popplewell Associates she is responsible for all financial matters, as well as the
day to day running of the office and all human resource issues.
